According to legend or tradition the Gi-ye and Ba-ye are the messengers from Hell(are equal to the Grim reaper from western hell.)They make an arrest the ghosts and the demons specially. Its their duty to maintain order in hell. One is tall and the other is short. Their skin yond is black and the other is blond. That we called Heimlich and Brainwashing ,also called General fame and General Xi. In order to show Taiwanese is respect for the ghost.
